Specter Subs 2023 FAQ
In 2021, we announced that we had decided to wind down operations and all group activity was placed on indefinite hiatus.We announced that we had plans to release the backlogged translation files that we had finished prior to our decision, which included the 2014 Yo-kai Watch series, as well as Yo-kai Watch Shadowside. We will begin the process of releasing these episodes in the near future.Below is a set of questions you may have regarding our disbanding. If you have any additional questions, please ask them via our Discord.
Is Specter Subs becoming active again?
Yes and no. We are gearing up to begin releasing our backlogged translations of the remaining episodes of the 2014 Yo-kai Watch series, which translations were completed a few years ago. We will also be committing to finishing the Shadowside anime, as we have a few episodes to go until it's complete.However, this is ALL we are planning on releasing, and after all episodes are released, we will formally disband.
Why is Specter Subs disbanding?
A lot has changed in our lives and with the Yo-kai Watch series over the years, and many of us were either not interested enough in continuing to fansub the series, or decided to move on from fansubbing altogether to pursue other opportunities.
Will you reverse your decision to disband?
No.
When will the episodes come out? What will come out first?
They will come out when they come out. We are still not adhering to a strict schedule, but we can confirm that they are actively being worked on daily as of May 2023.As of writing, we are focusing on the original 2014 series first, as the translations for the remaining episodes are already complete. Shadowside will come later.
How can we see the progress of the releases?
Our Discord supports Aquarius, which is a Discord Bot that is also compatible with the Deschtimes fansub tracker. All progress updates will automatically be forwarded to the #updates channel on our Discord.
Why do these new releases look or feel different than before?
We have updated styling and some translations for use in these new releases. We have also decided to adopt a more simplistic approach to the typesetting in order to facilitate faster releases
What will happen to the Specter Subs Discord Server?
Our Discord server will not affected, and it will remain open after we disband.
I want to watch the other series with English subtitles! What am I supposed to do now?
Animax Asia has been providing legal subtitled versions of Yo-kai Watch! (2019), as well as Yo-kai Academy Y. These versions have only been officially released in Southeast Asia, however we have found resources for viewing outside of this region, and have more information about it on our Discord server.
After you disband, what happens to you guys?
Some of us are and will be still active in the community and you are more than welcome to say hi and interact with us if you see us around anywhere. A few of us are no longer active and are focusing on other interests at this time.A select few of us are continuing to fansub under the name NovaWorks Fansubs, a group focused on fansubbing more mainstream anime. Our current projects at this time are Komi Can't Communicate, Gunma-chan, Me & Roboco, and more. If you have any interest, please visit the NovaWorks website for more details.
